Baby, baby

This photo is from a few weeks ago. I was doing an errand before my web design class and ran into Zoe, who was babysitting this (sometimes) precious girl. We walked around campus a bit and then sat in Wilder Bowl to enjoy the abnormally warm November day.

It only took 2 minutes for the baby to start screaming, so Zoe went to take her home. But those were a great 2 minutes, indeed.

A note for mumsies

Mom,

Thank you so much for a great Fall break. It was great to get rejuvenated, and I'll be seeing you before you know it in Chicago (and then New York!).

I love you so much. Keep fighting the good fight. You've done an amazing job so far.

Love,

Melissa

P.S. Look at our silly dog:

Birthday talk

Me: So, what do you want for your birthday?

Caitlin: Your hugs and kisses. What do you want for your birthday?

Me: Inner peace.

Caitlin: Well, I'm afraid Sharper Image is all out of that.

Check out that beauty mark.

Boris the cat was waiting for me after breakfast at Samatha and Melissa's. At least, I think his name is Boris.

Whatever, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Southern comfort.

Ronnie and Melissa.

Ronnie, Melissa's boyfriend came up for the weekend, so she cooked an authentic Southern dinner last night for us (and about 15 other people) at our friend Claire's apartment. I got to help make the hush puppies. We were quite proud of out round they turned out.

Little spheres of perfection.

Everyone kept snacking on them, so by the time dinner started, there were only about 20 left. But that's quite alright because we had quite the menu that night. So besides hush puppies there was:

-Catfish
-Fried okra
-Fried potatoes
-Macaroni and cheese

And for dessert...

-Banana pudding

I didn't go back for seconds, but I'm pretty sure that would have been impossible even if I had tried. This was by far the heaviest food that I've ever had in my life. In fact, it held me over so long that I didn't really eat anything until 7 PM the next day (with the exception of some green tea and some ak-mak crackers.) It's going to take me a long time to detox from this meal. But it was so worth it.

Kissy, kissy.

Colin (left) and Nikrad (right)

A particularly dynamic pair of friends.  Having dinner with them gave me a lot of energy to finish up the day.

Particularly nice moments from this week.

A house that I always pass on my way to "the other" Melissa's apartment.

Lemon chicken night at Kate and Sarah's apartment.

Puppy love at the 4th Annual Doggie Doo Pooch Parade. There was a shortage of Yorkies this year, but I found this little guy at the very end.

Sarah and Andrew (her boyfriend).

am Anfang (at the beginning)

I almost ran out of ways to push off self-correcting my German homework. But then the logical solution came to me:

Make a blog.

I mulled over the idea for 15 minutes or so, and I realized that blogging provides just the right amount of time-wasting potential.

Tonight isn't very representative of how I feel about my classes this semester. I've finally put together a schedule that has subjects that I find interesting and useful. Or at least as useful as my liberal arts education will allow. (I think the pre-med boat sailed when I was 12).

German has been particularly fulfilling. I'm getting a kick out of sharing what I'm learning with my mom. She's quite proficient in Yiddish, so it's really interesting to compare the two languages. I have to admit that I'm still not used to how fast language classes here at Oberlin go. I have a lot of time to decide whether or not I want to continue next semester, but despite all of the work, I have no regrets about taking the class.

...I really need to update when I'm more alert. I've always found it really convenient to blame my lack of inspiration on exhaustion. However, I'll incriminate myself and admit that I took a three hour nap this afternoon. So, on that note:

Gute Nacht.
